Members of the committee include Justice Akin Ajakaiye (Chairman), a revered historian, Professor Isola Olomola (member), former INEC National Commissioner representing Southwest, Mrs. Tola Ajayi (member), a policy expert, Professor Kunle Ajayi (member), Mr. Segun Oluwole (member) and Chief Ibidapo Awojolu (member).
Speaking while inaugurating the committee at Lady Jibowu Hall, Government House, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said the move was in response to the requests and agitation of the people during his yearly tour of towns and villages in the state.
He noted that he assured the people during the tours that their request would be acceded to.
Dr. Fayemi added that: "Ekiti people have a common goal and a common dream. Whatever may be our political, religious, social, geographical, age or gender differences, our people at home and in Diaspora want a state that they can be proud of; a state united, self-reliant and strong, a state with a dynamic and a resilient economy. Our government is able and duty-bound to provide that."
The governor urged the chairman and members of the committee to see the assignment as a call to service and "use their wealth of knowledge and experience to turn out a report which will go a long way in guiding government on this crucial step."
He forewarned them that they would be under considerable pressure from friends, individuals or groups, urging them to, however, resist such pressures so as to do an impartial and fruitful work.
Governor Fayemi assured the committee of his government's immense support and partnership in achieving the task set before them.
In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the committee, Justice Akin Ajakaiye, thanked the governor and his cabinet for finding him and other members of the committee worthy of the assignment.
Justice Ajakaiye promised that they shall "indelibly do everything in the fairness of God."
The committee has three months to submit its report, beginning from the time of inauguration.
