Work Commences on Proposed Ureje Eco-Tourism Park

Work has commenced on the proposed eco-tourism project to be undertaken with the constituency funds of the three senators from Ekiti State.

The eco-tourism project to be sited at the Ureje Dam in Ado-Ekiti will have such features as an artificial beach, nature walks, boating club, museum, art gallery, events centre, amongst other features.

Upon their inauguration as senators, Babafemi Ojudu, Olu Adetunmbi and Anthony Adeniyi decided to bunch the funds for their constituency projects on a yearly basis for a project on a turn-by-turn basis in the three senatorial districts.

In the first year, the senators chose Itapaji in Ekiti North for irrigation farming.

To achieve this, they got the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to write the Federal Ministry of Agriculture where the funds were domiciled for the release of such funds to UNDP which provided counterpart funding and is now overseeing the project in Itapaji.

It was the turn of Ekiti Central in 2013.

The senators agreed to turn Ureje Dam into an eco-tourism park.

The Federal Ministry of Tourism last year called for bids for the project.

The turning of sod will be done in early February, but the clearing of the site has already commended.
