Site of Proposed Ureje Eco-Tourism Park Handed Over to Contractors

Site of Proposed Ureje Eco-Tourism Park Handed Over to Contractors

The site of the proposed Eco-tourism park at Ureje in Ado-Ekiti has been handed over to the contractors tasked with making the project a reality.

At the handing over were officials of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism, two of the senators midwifing the project, Babafemi Ojudu and Anthony Adeniyi, some APC leaders and members of the public.

Senator Ojudu told the contractors that their objective is to set a new standard on how to initiate and execute constituency projects, stressing that it is not a project to be abandoned.

"Senator Adeniyi is a lawyer. I am journalist while Senator Adetunmbi is a reputable economist and World Band consultant. You know what would happen if the three of us join hands together against you. We want this project handed over to Ekiti State Government before June this year. Because of this, we have employed our own engineer who will be with you here on site to report to us on a daily basis the progress on site. We will bear his costs.

"Should anyone collect money and run away, anywhere you go, I will seek you out. I urge you to do this conscientiously. Let us show the whole world that not all lawmakers are rogues," Ojudu said.

He added that the project when completed would also show the world that the PDP-led Federal Government and an APC-led State Government could actually collaborate successfully to the benefit of the masses.

He also told the contractors not to shun any Ekiti people who may come to the site to look for job.

"We have also informed the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti that you would come to visit him. He will give you royal blessings, but should you fail to do a good job, there is the opposite of royal blessings," Ojudu said.

On his part, Senator Anthony Adeniyi said the project when completed would provide jobs for many Ekiti indigenes, thus reducing the hardships brought about by unemployment.

The engineer hired by the lawmakers, Mr. Ayo Ajibade, told the contractors that he would be on site every step of the way to ensure quality control.

"You are not building for us or our children. You are building for generations yet unborn. There is a need to do a good job so that those generations would say we really did a good job," the engineer said.

The engineer also informed the contractors that the time of the site handing over marked point zero of when the project is to be delivered and handed over to Ekiti State Government.

The turning of sod would be done on a day in the last week of February as agreed to by the Minister of Culture and Tourism.

The Eco-tourism park will have such features as artificial beach, nature walk, an event centre, museum, art gallery, boating club, etc.
