Court Restrains Ekiti LP Factions

An Ado-Ekiti High Court has restraind the Labour Party (LP) and its agents from recognising the Mr. Akin Omole-led executive and other factions of the party in Ekiti State.

In an interlocutory injunction brought before Justice Cornelius Akintayo, the court, last Friday, ordered parties to maintain the status quo. It restrained the Omole-led executive from holding any congress pending the hearing of the motion on notice.

Mr. Onile Adams earlier approached the court, praying it to restrain the LP leadership from recognizing the Omole-led interim executive and to restrain the Exco from holding any congress.

The court restrained both parties from parading themselves as Ekiti LP representatives.

Justice Akintayo said: "I have considered the submissions of Counsel and the circumstances of this case. I have noted that all the parties were served with the originating Summons and the Motion on Notice. I am of the view however that the court should not take the Motion on Notice today despite the abnormalities pointed out from the letter of the counsel to the defendants.

"I am of the view that I should allow the defendants Counsel who says he is sick to come and partake in the hearing of the Motion on Notice in the interest of fair hearing and Justice. I hold a firm view that in order to protect the res, subject matter of this case both parties should maintain the status quo in this case as at today pending the hearing of the Motion on notice.

"It is hereby ordered that both parties should maintain the status quo on the issues raised in the Motion on notice as at today pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice."
