Ekiti First Lady Reported Out of Context

Governorship Election: What a Misrepresentation!

It has come to my attention that some misrepresentation is being peddled on the social media about a certain statement ascribed to the First Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, on the outcome of this year's June 21 governorship election.

Erelu Fayemi had stated at a forum in Ido-Ekiti that Governor Kayode Fayemi would defeat his opponent in the next with a wide margin, so much so that the opponents would have no case to prove in court.

Unfortunately, her statement was reported out of context that the governor would lead the next opponent to him in the election with 500, 000 votes. Erelu Bisi Fayemi is well-informed about the number of registered voters in Ekiti State, having played an active role in the election of her husband as governor in 2007,  the 2009 re-run and other re-runs, the National Assembly and the House of Assembly elections in 2007 and 2011 in the state. There was no way she could have said her husband would lead by 500, 000 votes.

I personally sat down with the First Lady and she expressed dismay at the misrepresentation. She spoke in Yoruba language at the said event. How then could the issue of 500, 000 votes have arisen? I urge Ekiti people to discount enhance this misrepresentation. Erelu Bisi Fayemi is too informed to utter such a statement.

Thank you.
