PDP'S FORTUNES DWINDLE FURTHER IN EKITI

The Peoples' Democratic Party and the Labour Party's fortunes dwindled further on Sunday in Ekiti State as 60 members of both political parties joined the train of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijesa-Isu Ekiti.

Led by a former Director-General of Ekiti State Enterprise Agency during the Segun Oni administration, Mr. Femi Ajayi, the defectors said they decided to abandon their former political parties having seen how Governor Kayode Fayemi had turned around the fortunes of the state in such a short time.

Mr. Femi Ajayi noted that great nations are great because of exceptionally gifted leaders who harnessed the potentials of their people and showed them that the impossible was possible.

He added that Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, had demonstrated the same spirit through his steering of the economy of Ekiti State in the right direction.

"Fayemi understands what it means to develop the economy. You may not see that now, but he has prepared the ground and you will start seeing the results very soon. If we can all shun acrimony and return Fayemi for a second term, Ekiti will be better for it. I urge us all to continue to show love to one another. Politics must not be about personal interest or political appointments. Rather, it should be about the collective interest of Ekiti State - what is good for the greatest number of our people," Ajayi said.

He told the gathering that he was not in politics or coming to the APC for benefits, but to help in advancing Governor Fayemi's vision to make Ekiti State a place everyone can be proud of.

The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mr. Alaba Jimoh, who led fifty members of his union who were Labour Party members to defect to the APC, said the good works of the Fayemi administration in areas such as road construction convinced him and his members to pitch their tent with the APC.

Other notable leaders of the defectors in Ijesa-Isu are Kehinde Awoleye, a former PDP Youth Leader and treasurer in the ward, Folorunso Ogunsakin, Biodun Babafemi, Abimbola Alabi and Funke Akindahunsi.

Receiving the defectors, the ward chairman, Mr. Idowu Olatunji, said the Fayemi administration had done well for the town in the areas of road construction, palace and school renovation, social security for the elderly, amongst others.

He commended the leader of the defectors, Mr. Femi Ajayi, for his exploits in the Agriculture sector.

Also speaking on the occasion, the Special Adviser to the Governor, Governor's Office, Chief Akin Fasae, noted that the hitherto PDP members were Grade 'A' PDP members whose political strength and clout would do well in making PDP a byword in Ijesa-Isu.

Other APC leaders on hand to welcome the defectors into the APC were the Ikole Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Mr. Dele Olatunji, APC State Women Leader, Mrs. Funke Owoseni, former House of Assembly member, Mr. Nelson Omotayo and Chief David Adeyanju.

It was a carnival-like atmosphere as the people of the town trooped out in large numbers to witness the event.

Women and youths also danced round the town to celebrate the defection.
