Fayemi Celebrates Birthday With Old People

Instead of the pomp and pageantry that usually attend the birthday celebration of most public office holders, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi chose a different path when he celebrated his 49th birthday on Sunday.

The governor visited four eldery persons who are beneficiaries of the state's social security scheme in their homes and presented gift items to them.

He explained that it gave him more satisfaction to spend the day with the elderly persons rather than wining and dining in some exclusive location away from the masses.

Those visited are 83-year-old Mr. Ezekiel Ogunjobi of 12, Ayegunle Street, Ilu Omooba-Ekiti, 79-year-old Mr. Ajayi Dauda Olawunmi of V12, Iwore, Ifaki-Ekiti, Mrs. Salami Agetu at Aba Ebira, Opopogbooro, Ado-Ekiti who is 98 years old and 103-year-old Mrs. Aliatu Animashaun at L7, Ijigbo Street, Ado-Ekiti.

Gift items presented to them included  refrigerators, mattresses, fan, food items and gift hampers containing among other things clothes and beverages.

The elderly persons could not hide their joy as they prayed God to grant Dr. Kayode Fayemi sound health and a long life.

It would be recalled that the governor celebrated his last birthday at one of the orphanages in the state.

Meanwhile, the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation hosted the governor to a birthday party at the campaign headquarters at Ajilosun in Ado-Ekiti.

Addressing the gathering, the Director-General, Honourable Bimbo Daramola, noted that Governor Kayode Fayemi had made a success of his own life and by extension Ekiti State, hence the need to acknowledge the benevolence of God towards the governor and the whole of Ekiti State.

The campaign team offered prayers on behalf of the governor and also presented to him a birthday card signed by all members of the team.

Responding, Dr. Fayemi thanked them for the outpouring of love and their commitment to the collective mission to rescue Ekiti from locusts.

The governor added that "This is God's project. The vision is clear. Our people can attest to it that the collective rescue mission has been successful. They can attest to it that our people are on an upspring trajectory to progress and prosperity. We are on the march again."

Dr. Fayemi thanked the people for believing that a greater and more prosperous Ekiti was possible.

"I thank you for the generosity of spirit. I thank those who never relented even when darkness abounded. I pray that none of us shall be left behind. I also thank you for your commitment to our great party, the only vehicle of change in Nigeria," Fayemi said.
