Communities in Ekiti East Lay 2014 Requests Before Fayemi

Various communities in Ekiti East Local Government have laid their requests which are to be incorporated into the 2014 budget before the Fayemi administration.

The requests were made during Governor Kayode Fayemi's tour of the communities which witnessed a large turn-out of people, whose excitement was visible judging from the rousing welcome they gave the governor.

In line with the Fayemi administration's tradition of making an all-inclusive budget, the governor embarks on a tour of all communities in the state every year to interface with the people on their needs preparatory to making a new budget and to also know how well government has imparted the communities.

At Araromi-Ugbeshi, the people requested for the tarring of their inner city roads, 20 boreholes, 5 transformers and electricity extension, a government college, appointment of their sons and daughters into government positions and autonomy.

Responding, Governor Kayode Fayemi said he only ratifies autonomy, adding that he alone does not grant autonomy to communities.

He said the Araromi-Ugbeshi community should forward their memorandum to the government with evidence that it has always been a distinct community from time immemorial.

He also promised that his government would take a critical look at their various requests to know which ones can be accommodated in the 2014 budget.

The situation was not dissimilar in Kota, Araromi-Oke, Omuo-Oke, Omuo-Ekiti, Ayegunle, Ikun-Oba, Ilasa-Ekiti and Eda-Ile where they also presented written documents stating their requests for 2014.

The communities were full of praises for the Fayemi administration, even as they pledged their continued support for the administration.

The traditional ruler of Kota, Oba Kayode Fagbemi, said his community would forever be grateful to the Fayemi administration for "healing their age-long wound" by granting it autonomy.

Oba Fagbemi commended the style of governance of Dr. Fayemi which he described as second to none in the country, adding that the people of Kota have never had it so good given the various development efforts of the government in the community.

He assured the governor that his community would repay him with votes come 2014.

The governor inspected ongoing work at the town's civic centre which is one of the self-help projects for which the government gave out grants in July.

He said he was impressed that the community had already done a lot before the intervention of government and urged other communities to emulate Kota.

At Ilasa-Ekiti and Araromi-Oke, the governor inspected ongoing work at the palaces that are being renovated with the grants that the community received from government under the grants-in-aid programme tagged "Ajose Eyi Yato".

He also commissioned a viewing centre at Ikun-Oba and a community centre and 12 units of lock-up shops built by EKSCDA in Araromi-Oke.

At Eda-Ile, Dr. Fayemi commissioned a staff quarters for workers of the Health Centre in the community

The Eleda of Eda-Ile, Oba Moses Adeniran, urged the government to help with new structures in the primary school in the community, linking up of the community with other communities in the state besides Omuo and assistance in the building of a new palace.

Oba Adeniran, who said there is no community where the impact of the Fayemi administration has not been felt, commended the government for the electrification of his community.

The people of Omuo-Oke, on their part, requested for the construction of Igashi road and the extension of electricity to some parts of the community.

They also urged the government to speed up the completion of the community's portion of the 5 kilometre-road in Ekiti East.

Governor Kayode Fayemi rounded off Friday's tour with  a visit to Olomuo's palace.
