Monarch Warns INEC Not to Tamper With Ekiti Votes

The traditional ruler of Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Adebanji Alabi, has told the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to tamper with the votes of Ekiti in 2014 as Ekitis are passionate about their votes and would not want a re-enactment of 'Anambracadabra' in Ekiti next year.

Oba Alabi, who stated this during the State Government's budget tour of Ekiti Southwest, said INEC must ensure that the will of Ekiti people prevail at next year's governorship poll.

The monarch also harped on the need for peace: "Nobody's blood is worth spilling for election."

The Alawe commended the Fayemi administration for what he called outstanding performance.

He said:"We are highly delighted with the administration. The essence of governance is performance. Once a governor is performing, you don't change a winning team. I assure you that all Ilawe indigenes will support you for another term of four years."

The traditional ruler particularly praised the administration for the good roads in his community and the reconstruction of the roads linking Ilawe with other towns, renovation of schools, social security scheme for the elderly, the free health missions, amongst other achievements.

The requests put before the governor by the community include amongst others a Local Council Development Area (LCDA), General Hospital, completion of Ilawe/Ikere road.

In his remarks, Governor Kayode Fayemi explained that government revoked the contract for the Ilawe/Ikere road owing to shoddy job and that the contract would soon be re-awarded and the contractor mobilised to site.

He gave assurance that the road would be completed next year, adding that when the ongoing hospitals' renovation is completed, government would commence work on establishing general hospitals in Ekiti Southwest and Ilejemeje Local Government, the two local government areas where there are no general hospitals.

The governor also said no one should ask anybody not to run against him in the 2014 poll.

"The basis of successful electoral work is hardwork. We released a compendium of all our achievements not too long ago. There is no community we have not touched. In the last two weeks, I have visited 74 out of the 132 communities in Ekiti and in each community I have commissioned one project or the other. On the basis of that, we really should not have anything to fear. We don't sell violence. We don't sell rancour. We will sell what we have done. We also encourage those who want to run against us to sell what they want to do and not violence. They will provoke us because they have nothing to sell. They will harass us. They will even use federal power in abuja, but we will use our people," Governor Fayemi said.

The governor also visited Igbara-Odo and Ogotun where the needs of the people ranged from provision of water to road construction, upgrading of health centre to general hospital, provision of transformers, amongst others.

While responding, the governor said all their requests would be considered and appropriate action taken on them.

He also harped on the need for peace.

"Our good works are evident. Whoever feels he can do better should come out and tell the people his plans for them. This is how we will know if they really love the people," he said.
