Save Education, Save the Future; Ekiti Students Beg Federal Government

Ekiti students beg Federal Government to save education in Nigeria, while celebrating this year International Students' Day today 20th November, 2013 in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

It would be recalled that the Ekiti State Governor marked the event last year with an interactive dinner but during this year's celebration, the students proposed to the Governor to include a "Save Education; Save the Future" walk across the major streets of Ado-Ekiti before the interactive dinner with the Governor later in the evening on same day.

The walk, which drew the attention of the Public was attended by the Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, ably represented by his Special Assistant on Students' Matters, Comrade Adeolu Oyebode.

The governor promised to deliver their message to Mr President without delay.

Speaking on the state of education, Comrade Abegunde Oluwayomi Moses FESSU National President said "I want to use this medium to urge FG and ASUU to please strike out the action and save education in Nigeria because Nigerian education is dying and collapsing, our students are getting themselves involved in so many dirty deals that is making them loose their precious lives on daily basis".

Comrade Oluwadamilare Kayode Bewaji, Chairman, NANS JCC Ekiti Axis said "this year 2013 International Students Day has taken another dimension, we decided to celebrate it on a low key, we are appealing to our government to save the future of Nigerian Students. There should be proper funding of the education before its too late.

Comrade Owolabi Oluwasijibomi Abiodun, SUG President Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti said, "this strike action has protracted the stay of students on campus especially we the finalists, its painful starting well and not being able to finish as planned, we therefore appeal once again to ASUU and FG to find a lasting solution to this strike action,we say that enough is enough".

Comrade Akinola Oluwaseyi, SUG Caretaker-Chairman, College of Education Ikere-Ekiti, also said send passionate appeal saying "we are celebrating this year's international students day in an unusual way as a result of the ongoing ASUU strike and the sit-at-home strike embarked upon by COEASU, to show our grievance to relevant authorities because the students are always at the receiving end of whatever actions they take, we therefore appeal to Ekiti State Government and COEASU to please understand our feelings and solve whatever problem they have amicably in order to get us back to our lecture rooms as soon as possible".
