Oba Adejugbe Hospital to Commence Operation On Thursday

In line with its promise of ensuring total health care for Ekiti people, the Kayode Fayemi-led administration has distributed cheques worth over N33.3 million to 58 medically challenged people.

Speaking at the event which held at the Okeyinmi Health Centre in Ado-Ekiti, the governor described the gesture as a demonstration of his administration's compassion to ensure that everyone lives a healthy life.

Fayemi said his administration had also broadened the scope of those under the free health programme within the state's limited resources.

The governor said: "We have just completed another edition of our free health mission. In order to deepen the free health programme of this administration, we have adopted the NHIS (National Health Insurance Scheme). As many are aware, we just opened the Adunni Olayinka Cancer Diagnostic and Wellness Centre. By Thursday this week, we will be opening the first phase of Oba Adejugbe General Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

"We will continue to monitor those who received cheques today and I am certain that God who is the ultimate healer will heal them."

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Olusola Fasuba, stated that the distribution of cheques to medically challenged people commenced in 2011 and that the latest one is the 7th edition, adding that N190 million has been disbursed so far.

He explained that the initiative is to compliment the free health missions and the free health programme of the administration which covers only pregnant women, elderly persons above 65, children under 5, physically challenged persons and People Living With HIV/AIDS.

Fasuba remarked that many of the diseases for which the people were being given cheques are highly preventable if only people would take precaution.

He thanked the state's international development partners such as WHO, UNICEF, amongst others for their support.

Apart the presentation of cheques to the 58 beneficiaries, medical equipement were also presented to the Okeyinmi Health Centre to boost its services to the people.
